About Ladadika
Ladadika is the historic 19th-century olive-oil trading quarter of Thessaloniki, today one of the most lively nightlife districts. The name comes from the old “ladadika” (olive-oil shops) that operated here.
After the 1917 fire the neighbourhood remained almost untouched, preserving authentic stone buildings and narrow cobblestone streets. Since the 1990s it has been an officially protected architectural area; the old warehouses and houses gradually became restaurants, mezedopoleia, taverns and bars.
Today Ladadika is the heart of Thessaloniki nightlife with dozens of options for food and drink. The well-known squares (Morichovou, Athonos, and the small Plateia Emporiou) lead into narrow pedestrian streets full of outdoor tables, live music and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
